1307003 2012-10-15 20:25:00 If you want the most timely OS updates or don't want to pay a premium for "the latest" (Similar to paying for top-tier CPUs, you always pay a premium), then the Galaxy Nexus. Still a fantastic all around phone.

If you are OK with flashing a ROM, then the One X hardware wise trumps everything but the standard software is terrible in my opinion.

If you want the second best hardware with significantly nicer OEM-shipped software (Though still not as nice as vanilla Android as you'd get with the Galaxy Nexus or by flashing the One X) then the Galaxy S3.

If you're after < $400 phone, I'd suggest something like the original Galaxy S and flash Jellybean.

1307004 2012-10-15 20:27:00 For top of the range androids, I think the S3, due to the removable battery and sd card slot.
I've never really cared about that.

I've not once, my whole life, gone "Oh man my battery is almost flat, I know, I'll swap out to this fully charged spare that I have handy in my backpack". Doesn't happen ;)

So true that is why I had now in the title.

1307006 2012-10-15 21:13:00 If massive power isn't something you crave and you are interested in a great iOS smooth type experience when it comes to updates and ROM stability I'd wait out for the new Nexus.

S3/One X are great phones but I find to get a decent droid experience you really should use a custom ROM, getting a ROM that just works, is smooth and stable can be a real hassle and sometimes I feel it isn't worth it. The nexus series are more than capable, you'll not be disappointed. It's just one of the things you have to weigh up. Power, Looks, Convenience.

My 2c, wait for next Nexus (or get the current one) unless you are after some of the features of the One X/S3
The lack of a MicroSD card puts me off the Nexus.

1307007 2012-10-15 21:14:00 If you are keen on waiting and wanted the best and biggest, but thin and light, smartphone. Wait for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 which might come to NZ early next year.
Too big for what I want.

Neither. Just my experience with friends devices and my iPod, being able to replace it if it completely dies without having to send the whole phone in is nice. An SD card slot is always a nice thing to have though.

1307010 2012-10-15 21:58:00 Thanks team.
I have decided to go for the Galaxy S3 32GB because of the MicroSD. I will see what the local guy will do it for otherwise I might go for MobiCity as their prices seem reasonable at $739.

1307011 2012-10-15 22:04:00 Sony Xperia has a wide range of Android phones to suit any budget. XDA community supports it nicely. I still run my Xperia X10 from 2009 with nice updates from XDA tmrafi (5179)

Sony is definitely off my shopping list. Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
