What supposedly-clueless PC user would be running Registry Editor?? Anyway, glad he didn't stop you there - quite entertaining! I had fun with my guy by completely spelling some of the phonetic alphabet shortcuts he was saying & then feeling his frustration when I read back that I had errors like "Windows cannot find the file 'echoventvwr'. Make sure you typed it correctly...", etc. One thing that I have to say for our Indian friends, though, is that I have some sympathy for them having to deal with people probably more computer-illiterate than your apparently-useless self on a regular basis. They're remarkably patient. I wish I'd recorded my guy ranting on for a couple of minutes on speakerphone after I'd stopped talking & had owned up to wasting 15 minutes of his precious time. | MushHead (10626) | ||
| 1306402 | 2012-10-11 19:57:00 | Nice One Chill  I'm waiting for them to call again, and I'm going to say I have Antivirus 2012 which says I have hundreds of infections :D Wonder what will happen with Windows 8 (that'll stuff em) as it doesn't have a "start Button". Remember once I did get a call From Microsoft, their marketing department rang (At least once a week for a while) trying to sell me server software, I had to tick the box that said allow Microsoft to contact you when filling out a form on their site (mistake there) - thought it was a Scam call, and wasn't exactly to polite in telling them what they could do -- OOPS ! |

They should apply for real tech support roles, they would probably do quite well. I can just their CV now :D "Previous experience as the infamous "PC Help scam" can convince customers to spend money on your services". |

| 1306409 | 2012-10-11 20:56:00 | I got a cold call yesterday from a guy who identified himself as "XX from Powerwatch" (I forget his name). I told him (not unpleasantly) that "I don't take cold calls". He replied "How do you know what I want to talk to you about?". I just repeated that I don't take cold calls, which is my usual mantra to stop them getting involved with their script and further wasting my time. He then said that he had been trying for ages to find me, and that he had some mail for me that had been misdirected. He thought he would bin it because of my reaction. "Yes, I will bin it - pity, because it looks important." I politely replied, thank you and goodbye. So the parasites are trying to fight back... Pathetic. |
