| 1306127 | 2012-10-10 08:37:00 | Check your neighbour, bet he has a sneaky serial cable attached to your mobo, got a little PIC relay in there to get it the 500m to his man cave and he's pushing hardcore hacks bit by bit (literally) to the BIOS, by next week he'll have something hooked up to LPT to exploit the long unpatched LPT kernel injection and before you know it he'll format all your floppies!! No more DOS for you!!!! Strange you mention that, had a pentium III machine that did that randomly. Couldn't shut it down it would always boot itself up again, even without the power switch on. Think it was a loose bit of solder (messy me :D) stuck behind the mobo. Another time (with another machine) the switch which a friend got free from an old company in the hutt had been set to auto send the lan wake command @ 4AM I guess it was for updates, dunno what switch it was its long gone but it has the ability to do that. He couldn't work out why about 5 of the 10 workshop PC's would randomly be running in the morning. Sat up all night "Gnome watching" for the little gypsies that turned them on at night. I Imagine he got a fright when with a whirr of HDD's and POST beeps they all booted bang on 4. I believe he found out when he took the switch apart when he upgraded and found it had an addon card with a bit of paper attached that had the instructions and settings used for the wake command. This was way back in my life (not too far back in some others!) around '04 |
