1282601 2012-06-19 06:18:00 Yeah Billy, we survived alright, but I wonder whether we could claim ACC because of it ... ;)

Didn't need ACC back then, it was Workers' Compensation, paid by employer's insurance company, by-pass doctors' and straight into hospital for free treatment.

1282602 2012-06-19 08:33:00 Thank you so much for # 2. It has reminded me how much freedom we had in those days and all the very happy memories of growing up then! We played cowboys and indians, and bullrush and climbed trees and onto roofs and fell down trying to walk across rivers and streams and sometimes got lost in shops and stranded on rocks at high tide, pushed into the swimming pools at the deep end and jumped off the high board holding our noses, putting pennies on the railway line and watching them get squashed flat! Well, thats what I did anyway, having three older brothers was great fun!

1282604 2012-06-19 09:20:00 We were allowed to be more adventurous and take risks in those days. I do remember placing pennies on the railway line. We swam in the local river. I used to disappear into the bush and live in a hut that I built during the weekends. We were never driven to school and we thought nothing of walking. Bobh (5192)

1282609 2012-06-20 10:46:00 No 2 bought back some memories...

Matchbox cars in the garden; making "forts" out of freshly cut grass in a paddock behind us and throwing clods with stones in them at each other... a treehouse that most parents would faint at today.
We also created a BMX track in that paddock (my neighbour and I), raced boats down the guttering, threw snowballs at cars as they passed (granted one turned out to be a cop so that game ended fast:D)

Ah, those were the days

1282610 2012-06-20 10:50:00 You had pennies?
Yes, but they got crushed like boy racers cars. :D

We also had half pennies. Farthings were what older people talked about.
