1306925 2012-10-15 04:56:00 Despite all settings being correct Vista cannot receive MS updates. Found "Hotfix for Windows" KB947821 which downloaded but failed to initialise. Check update history is blocked. System is recording KB947821 has loaded but is "damaged". Win log file shows old logs but nothing in the last year, cleared log and restarted, checked log and recent events now appearing. MS updates are set to download automatically but nothing happening. Any ideas? Pakman (16340)

I have found method 8 to be particularly effective, only prob is you have to redownload some/all of the updates.
Method 5 or 6 may be preferable.

1306927 2012-10-15 05:24:00 You could also check if the Windows Update service is turned on in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services.

Have you scanned for viruses or rogue antispyware?

1306928 2012-10-15 07:32:00 Yep - ran full virus check and found nothing untoward. Pakman (16340)
1306929 2012-10-15 08:31:00 Personally I've always done option 8 in the link feersumendjinn posted, works 99% of the time. What generally happens ( in non technical terms) one or two updates get "stuck" wiping out the SoftwareDistribution Folder, allows them to redownload from fresh.

Make sure you run the commands to stop then start the service other wise windows will not allow any changes.

1306931 2012-10-30 03:24:00 Thanks heaps wanuitech - after a frustrating morning trying to work out why my computer hasn't checked for/received any Windows/MS Updates since 17/10/2012 in spite of my settings - option 8 in the link supplied above worked for me too. :) Glad I didn't have to plow through all of the other things on that page first. Am bookmarking this thread for future reference. catspyjamas (15614)
