1306294	2012-10-10 23:14:00	Hi, A few weeks ago, I bought a brand new laptop battery. After my first charge, the battery indicator on my machine went to 100%. I have charged it 7 times. Sometimes partial, other times when the batter is low. If the battery is low, I would start it from 25% and it would go as far as 96%. I have charged it at 7% and have left it overnight with it not going as higher than 94% at the most, the last time I remember. Now after a number of discharge cycles, my battery reading will not progress higher than 86% even leaving the laptop over night still charging. It seems though, the more I leave the laptop on charging, the figure keeps going down and will not go higher or even back to 100% Can anyone explain why this happens and what I should do to rectify this problem. Maybe it has a dodgy cell, if you are competent with a voltmeter check the voltage after a long charge. With no load it should be higher than the rated voltage of the battery. I'm not familar with the charged voltage of lithium batteries as normally used in laptops but a 12V lead acid for example will charge to around 15V and a 1.2V NiCad or NiMH will charge to 1.5V Contact whoever you purchased it from and describe the problem. It's always best when new stuff appears to be faulty or not functioning right to go straight back to the supplier. It should be under warranty.	dugimodo (138)
1306300	2012-10-11 01:22:00	Is the new battery a 3rd party one or a genuine one made by the same company as the laptop? The battery I got was PA3420U from Trademe on the 27 September. I selected this one because it was also the same model as the original Toshiba brand. Although it is not a Toshiba brand, the auction did state it was a replacement and has RoHS as the brand. Unfortunately, I went for the one I could afford at the time. It costed me $71.99 and I did not take brand into consideration. Now thinking on that note, the orginal was Toshiba, but did not last very long; roughly speaking an hour. This battery does last longer and charges quickly, but does not allow me to recharge back to 100%. The old problem according to Windows 7 (kept popping up with a message telling me to replace it), so since this is my first laptop, I took this as a warning sign to buy a brand new one instead. I am not comfortable working with electronic equipment unfortunately, though I will take your advice about making contact. I took it on upon myself to ask expert advice first here before making a final decision. You just never know, it could be something simple, and I am no expert with laptops. Cheers.	undiejuice (16495)
1306302	2012-10-11 22:29:00	You could download this battery monitoring program: BatteryMon (www.passmark.com). If when you run it (both charging and discharging the battery), you should see smooth steps in the charge level. If the charge level plot has sudden jumps in it, you have bad cell in the battery.	wuppo (41)
