2012-10-09 20:38:00 | Hi, if I am using my USB stick on another computer say school/work. Those computers don't have Truescrypt installed. Does that mean I need to use a secure "file"? I cannot encrypt the entire USB stick because I won't be able to put the software in it and be read? :thanks

2012-10-09 20:50:00 | There is a portable version of truecrypt, I would just use the file unless you are able to carry 2 flash drives, the encrypted one and then the one containing Truecrypt portable. | nedkelly (9059) | |
2012-10-09 20:54:00 | Cheers :D Yeah there is a portable version when you hit the install program - it gives the option to install or put files into a folder. But I would need to access the program before I can decrypt/mount.

2012-10-09 23:30:00 | OR you could partition your main USB. Primary partition is only big enough for Truecrypt, maybe make it 64MB so you could save a few docs on it un-encrypted... OR you could simply not encrypt the whole partition, but rather just have a file on the USB drive that you can encrypt / decrypt, as well as the Truecrypt files.

Seriously though, my USB drives live in my pocket or in a draw at home, never needed to encrypt anything. You could also go the simple route of a password protected Zip file for anything sensitive. I'm sure truecrypt is great, but I just don't see the point for most users. | dugimodo (138) | ||
2012-10-10 01:28:00 | Coz it's just as easy as using a password protected .zip, only more secure. | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2012-10-10 01:34:00 | I mentioned the zip only as an option, I don't really see the point of that either. What files do you carry around that need securing and from who? Most of the world cares nothing for your personal files and whats in them. | dugimodo (138) | |
2012-10-10 03:35:00 | Things like my CV, insurance policies, specific important emails, investments, finance budgets, statements, credit card numbers, passport copy and tax no . . . . . . On my PC, my Outlook file which is 15+ years old .
