1281594 2012-06-14 07:21:00 So my internet connection in winter is really bad (< 1 MBPS freq DC's daily) and in ruling out the possibilities I've come to the conclusion that I really should have a separate jack point for the ADSL service.
(5 jack points, removed devices, one at a time, changed filters, changed routers)

What I want to know is where do they usually put the jack point?

The house is under 10 years old, two storey, but is built on a concrete foundation so running cable under, over or through walls is not feasible.

1281595 2012-06-14 07:51:00 They usually put the splitter in the ETP if possible otherwise at the first phone jack in the chain.
They then use the second pair of wires inside the standard phone cable for the ADSL while keeping the currently used pair for the phones.
(Or if CAT5 cable has been used then they have more pairs to choose from :))

So you can choose which jack point you want to have the ADSL at but it won't be able to have a phone there as well unless you get a second jack point put in next to the existing one.
They just do some rejoining of the wires as necessary.
If possible it would be best to have the ADSL at the first jack point as that will give you the best connection possible as it eliminates any cabling in the house that could be causing issues.

That is the crux of the issue. Whoever did the wiring daisy chained the whole lot together. Poorly.

Hmm... ... ............................
