61231 2002-07-10 05:16:00 I wish to scan my hands and feet for a biology project for school, however, my scanner uses a purple coloured light, which I suspect is UV based. Is it a good idea to scan skin with this?? I do not really want to tan my palms etc!!!

Cheers, Jimbob.

PS, I am looking to scan around 600dpi so the sanning would be quite slow...

61232 2002-07-10 05:26:00 I don't think the intensity will be enough to do any damage. "Sun beds" use hundreds of watts of fluorescents. You might have 5 watts. You could put on sunblock --- but you'ld have to clean it off the glass afterwards :D .

Don't stand on the glass sheet. Apart from damaging the scanner, ;-) it will damage your feet if it breaks. :_|

Do you really need that much resolution? It will make a big file at 600 ppi. (10 X 600 X 8 X 600 X 3 bytes). And it is hard to keep still for a long time.

61234 2002-07-10 06:24:00 If it falls off ... :D But it's probably just cramp from holding it steady for all that time. ;-) Graham L (2)
