| 61380 | 2002-07-10 12:26:00 | HI, we are having a problem changing passwords over an IP network on our W2K Pro workstation over an external office. The PDC is Win NT Server4 that we log onto. We have no problems changing P/w's from our internal machines (w9*machines+ a W2K) but when we try and do it from the out office over the IP network we get an error 'the domain controller can ot be found or is not available'. Yet despite this message we can logon OK and the network is available. I am suspecting that it is something to do with security of W2K but I am at a loss to know what it could be. Help would be most appreciated, Richard |

Sounds like a WINS or DNS thing to me.....try running ipconfig /all from a command prompt on the PC & see if it's looking at the correct servers. | flamingo rinse (967)

I presume that the password changing is done as Administrator. You may have a restriction on that. (with Linux, you just login as a user, then "su" to the privileged account to do the "dangerous" things). | Graham L (2)
