61808 2002-07-12 03:51:00 I am trying to solve a shutdown problem with a windows 95 machine. When we shut down it comes up with a message in saying
'Windows protection error
Press any key to continue'

When a key is pressed it shuts down ok, we tried booting in safe mode and the machine would shut down properly so I'm taking a guess that it is a software/ possible hardware conflict.

Got any answers?

61809 2002-07-12 04:18:00 opps, the error message actually reads as follows,

'Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer
Press any key to continue'

61811 2002-07-13 07:27:00 Sam H, Are you running Norton AntiVirus v4 or v5 by any change?

Cheers, Babe.

61812 2002-07-13 08:04:00 Sam H, Ok of course my last post should have said "... by any chance?".

Now have you had a look at the following MS KB article:
Troubleshoot Windows Protection Error Messages (support.microsoft.com)

Cheers, Babe.
