2002-07-12 01:31:00 | Each time I start up my laptop I get the following message; "Plguni has caused an error in(unknown). Plguni will shut down. So what is Plguni, as it being closed seems to not affect the operation of the laptop.

Where abouts does this occur when you start up, bios? windows? What os do you have and since when has this problem been happening? Is it just out of the blue or after you installed or un installed something? |

2002-07-14 10:31:00 | Arrrrrrrrrrr. Thank god, some one else has the same prob. I've been searching this forum hoping to find some one with the same problem. I remember that I started getting the problem after I had loaded some self help diagnosis sample programmes ex. the June 2002 pcworld CD. Either something was not compatible with my software or I didn't delete the programme correctly. | Craig321 (152) | |

2002-07-15 22:40:00 | Hi Craig and Dereck, have you considered that this file might be a virus? Many viruses replicate themselves into executable files with randomly generated names and these names do not show up in searches of the usual sources like MS or Google. Have you located this file on your system, does it exist in windows\system for instance which is where most virus replications finish up. Have you searched your registry for it as it's location would be further evidence of it's origins? The last time I had an unidentifiable exe file causing problems it turned out to be a worm called something like Acebot. Two people getting the same random file name is a bit of a coincidence, but then people do win lotto as well! HTH PC

2002-07-16 10:17:00 | Thanks Peter. I had wondered whether this was a virus. I run PC-cillin and update with great regularity. But I think you are right. Especially since the Plguni problem is intermittent. I'll do as you suggested and might fire a note off to Trend Micro for help (the marketers of PC-cillin). Will keep you updated. Thanks. Like your comment re lotto. If only.....the great NZ superfund ? | Craig321 (152) | |
