2002-07-14 16:02:00 | and if it helps anyone draw conclutions, i found the logs of the failed burns. (www.something.net.nz) from the first benQ.. there are none on the second one, cause the clever software happily burns to a virtual device, as the second burner is still not seen as such.

2002-07-14 20:54:00 | Hello Chris, Your looking in the wrong place, as I said "You need to go to the software makers site and download the CDRW recognition file" this is not the Benq site, Benq only make the Writers they do not support the software even if it is shipped with their drives (by the way what software is it) if it's still nero go to their site etc. Alan

2002-07-15 00:22:00 | woo hoo, i just burnt a CD.... and it plays in the audio CD player too! after all of this, this is rather exciting there were no recognition files as such, but there was an update. now i just got to fix inCD, the program that takes care of the rewriting side of things, as that still thinks there is no CDburner present i do think it's odd that i got software that didn't support the player it was bundled with!

2002-07-15 00:31:00 | bit like a mates cd burner. the software clashes with IE6 for some werid reason (and no fix advailable) so we changed it to nero and no more problems. | tweak'e (174) | |

2002-07-15 05:13:00 | Chris, You need to update INCD seperately, you will find an update on the Nero site. You will very rarely find uptodate software shipping with purchased Hardware, this is for several reasons, but mainly the astronomic speed at which hardware updates ( for instance the industry speed of CDRW drives as gone from 12 x 10 x32 to 40 x12 x48 in the last 12 months)therefore software always lags behind. Lesson 1 for anybody purchasing new Hardware always check the manufacturer of your softwares website for updates preferably prior to installation of the said hardware. If you want a real laugh regarding shipped hardware and software, a friend sent me a PC specification to comment on the other day, The system was specified with XP home edition, listed amongst the bundled software was trend antivirus and the disclaimer unsuitable for XP (no updates available) Alan

2002-07-15 05:53:00 | well 1 out of 1 is not 100% and sadly i seem to be getting about ½ failure rate on this burner as well, but i'm perservering. logs &screen shots of any errors (www.something.net.nz) are being updated as i go. BTW, inCD worked fine, 1 out of 1 so far........

2002-07-15 07:45:00 | Chris, Your errors still point to the power supply, if you look in the fail logs you will see power calibration errors, on a new drive the main cause of this error is an inadequate power supply on older drives it is often media not liked by the drive or dry runners. One of the other errors says cannot find the files, again this is not a problem with the writer. As we have already suggested get it tested elsewhere. Alan

2003-01-06 20:58:00 | Just to put a final note on this thread.. i'm now on CDRW #3 It is a nameless peice of hardware, and works really well, but starts to do silly things after the forth burn in a row. I put this down to overheating, and work around this. Cheers all, particually those who offered advice back when i was having problems with the first 2 .Clueles (AKA Chris Wilson)

2003-01-06 22:32:00 | What brand of CD blanks do you use Chris? I have a LG writer / Roxio software, and the thing burns everything perfectly - until I use some of the elcheapo discs eg: Melody.
