62081 2002-07-14 01:53:00 one small thing.are you sure the cd writer is not over heating? tweak'e (174)
62082 2002-07-14 02:05:00 tweak'e,
The sides have been of my computer for the last year, this uninsulated concrete room is bloody cold, visitors less hard than i complain bitterly about it, but the room is too big to heat. This is cold rainy miserable CHCH, not the winterless north. Besides, i've gone out, and come back to have another go, once the burner started sulking, it stayed sulky.

Heat may be a factor, but it seems unlikely.
Thanx anyway

62083 2002-07-14 02:43:00 i hope condenstion isn't a factor ;-)

if the writer works ok in another pc i would suspect something with your pc.

what does the nero cd speed tests say?

62084 2002-07-14 03:07:00 i just had a look at the screenshots (www.something.net.nz) of the failed burns. 12, 12, 8, 8, 8.
looking at the logs they would suggest that the device failed before firing up the laser, unfortunatly the logs were over writen when i installed nero for the next dud burner i was given.

burner 1 was intermittant
burner 2 (the replacement) wasn't in a box, so i assume it is someone elses reject.

Dont worry, condensation isnt a factor, i light the fire in the next room before it gets that bad.........

62085 2002-07-14 05:03:00 Hello again Chris,

Could you let us know exactly what you are running hardware wise on your PC, a 235 watt PSU is very marginal I think for the type of things you are doing. also are you running any USB devices, these also suck heaps of power ( my boston acoustics BA735 Digital woofer and sattelites require a minimum of a 450 MHz CPU and 64MB, 128 recommended for instance) you have overlooked the fact that your new writer is more powerful and might just require more power than your PSU can handle now.
Take it back to the shop get them to test it, if it also runs OK you know where your problem lies.

62086 2002-07-14 05:18:00 I'm wondering if all you guys that have suggested sulotions have used benQ writers before. Take a look at my case as well. By the way there are a lot more people that are having problem with benQ writers. it's all over the net. boom23 (176)

a little tempermental.(via for you)

i would ditch the s3 card. you will find it goes a lot better without it.

you would have cheaked already but in case you havn't check the DMA is enabled for the hardrive and cdwriter.
