61862 2002-07-12 09:08:00 Dial up networking connects me to xtra.
Outlook Express connects me to xtra.
But thats all.... after the initial connection my system doesn't seem to talk.
If I say getmail.....nothing
In Int. Explorer...open page ...nothing

Modem says working ok....settings same as my other computer which happily connects receives/sends over xtra (not xtra this time)

Would appreciate help asap

61863 2002-07-12 10:34:00 Check IE Settings

Check these things.
With Internet Explorer open select Tools/Internet Option

Click on Connections tab at the top
Make sure Xtra is showing as the default.
Make sure "always dial my default connection" has the dot in it.
Click Apply and OK

61864 2002-07-12 10:36:00 Hi Megahurts, found these answers for you to check, from a similar posting. Hopefully they may be of some help to you!

This can happen if you have got "Use Proxy Server" ticked. That's somewhere in the TCP/IP properties.

Or even more basically, this will happen if you dont have a TCP/IP installed and bound to the dial up adapter, check in Control Panel-Network to see if TCP/IP is listed.

Zone Alarm has caused this problem for me. If you have it, disable it and see if things work.

Those settings ok...can log on but then nothing !
ie only about 370 bits get transmitted or received...doesn't matter what program is connecting.

It looks like all programs refuse to communicate once connection made.
Replaced modem.. no difference

Use proxy server .. not ticked
TCP/IP installed
Zone Alarm installed...but wasn't enabled...so I thought that couldn't be the prob.

However, enabled zonealarm then disabled it .....what do you know now my internet connection works again !!!!!!

Thanks heaps would not of thought of that
