62289 2002-07-14 01:04:00 Is there a way of getting rid of the letters "MSVDM" from the XP powertoys desktop manager? Its a handy tool, but thos letters take up abit of space on my toolbar that could be used for other things. I am hoping someone knows a registry hack for this?? Cheers....... slave1 (1022)
62290 2002-07-14 01:51:00 Not that I know of, but if you rarely use the different desktops why don't you just get rid of the desktop managers quick switch buttons. To do this right click MSVDM and un tick show quick switch buttons. You can still switch between them by pressing the windows key with either 1 2 3 or 4,
You can also configure the shortcuts by right clicking MSVDM and selecting configure shortcut keys.

rigth click on the menu and deselect lock the task;
Right click on the MSDVC taskbar ans deselet ShowTitle (the letters are gone);
Lock the taskbar.

MSVDM (msvdm) msvdm.dll hack / patch / get rid of / remove letters / eyesore / regain toolbar space

target: \WINDOWS\system32\msvdm.dll
tools: a hex editor or Ztree (http://ztree.com) (ztree rocks, thanks kim!)

1.) Obtain the power toy DeskmanPowertoySetup.exe (download.microsoft.com)
(note: I am not responsible if you screw up, or anything else, if you cause a nuclear war, it's your fault, this is just what I did to fix the annoyance.)
2.) turn off the Desktop Manager Toolbar. (stop it from running)
3.) backup msvdm.dll to msvdm.dll.org (in case you mess up)
4.) perform the following hex edit.

5.) start your new Desktop Manager toolbar
6.) Those Letters are gone.

Final thought: This ain't the best manager, it's not linux, but it is free. It does work when you need it.

~w00t~ Enjoy!
