62253	2002-07-13 13:03:00	Hey There, On wednesday we get a new computer to replace the ol' 486 (ok you can laugh now), My mum has a whole bunch of MS works files in MS works 3.0b and I was wondering when we get the new computer can I staright copy the files (which i have on disk) to the new computer which will have XP. I really need to know if I can do this otherwise mum will be typing around 100files froms scratch, if anyone has a program that will allow me to update the files if needed please send it to me! We also have MS works 4.0 on disk if that helps which I could use to update 3.0b to 4.0 then to windows works XP? To put it plainly- 3.0b->WorksXp? or 3.0b->4.0->XP?	fiveonefive (1019)
62254	2002-07-13 22:51:00	The newer Works program should recognise the older version files, without a problem. It is normal practice for program writers to build in backwards compatability, otherwise nobody would EVER upgrade a program, if it made their files useless. 62255	2002-07-13 23:32:00	Your mum should have no problems opening her files in the new Works version but when she saves her files she will get a warning that if she saves them in the new format the files will no longer be compatible with the old programs they came from. This is not a problem unless your mum has another computer with the old Works on (eg at a friend's house or at work) and wishes to transfer her new files to the other PC. Note that the newer Works uses Word as the word processor now, not like the old Works' own diluted word processor. It's much better!	Susan B (19)

"Works" is a "suite", a very watered-down version of Office if you can be so crude . ;-) The most recent version of Works that I have is 4 . 5 and it includes a word processor, spreadsheet and database . None of them are as powerful as the Office versions . The latest Works "suites" include Picture Publishing or something like that and possibly another program, I'm not sure . It still includes the spreadsheet and database but the word processor is now Office's Word . A very wise move .	Susan B (19)

62261	2002-07-14 03:36:00	OK, I'll accept that . I'm just going by what I've seen in the shops . I thought the Works had been taken over by the Works Suite rather than there now be two separate issues, for want of a better word . Better not rely on what I see in the shops in future, had I? :-)	Susan B (19)
