62964 2002-07-16 04:51:00 I recently backed up some data onto a cd-r.

I was using Nero on a mates computer. I dont know what the settings were on Nero, but I burnt one lot of data, and then a second lot.

Now Nero reckons that it is a multisession cd, but when I open it I can only get to the stuff I burnt second. If I get CD info in Nero, it shows me both sessions.

How do I get to the first session that I burnt? Or is is gone for good? ?:|

(I normally use Iomega hotburn, it seems to be idiot-proof, guess I must be an idiot) :(

Thanks

62965 2002-07-16 04:57:00 Try it in a cd writer. Some cd read only ones don't like a non-closed disc.

62966 2002-07-16 05:07:00 I tried reading it on 2 different cd-roms, and 2 different burners, but so far the only thing that can see the first lot of data is Nero disk info. vanman (959)
62967 2002-07-16 06:50:00 ok... here's the deal... when you clicked on the continue multisession option, there should be some options underneath it too... make sure you have only "Always" and "Add New Files To compilation" checked... Default is to delete the existing files on the CD-r and replace them with whatever you're writing the 2nd time around.

Dumb, eh? I learnt that the hard way...

I'd like to know how the writer can actually overwrite files on a (non-rewritable) CD-R disk .

Are you sure you aren't confusing it with the CD-RW - rewritable - disks?

62969 2002-07-16 09:02:00 Ok, it doesn't actually "delete" the data as such... it merely modifies the TOC which details what the disc contains.

Sorry to be confusing!
