When I log on as a user the spell checker isn't available, but it is there when I log on as Aministrator.

I have looked but can't find any setting where this could be changed. Can any one help?

62991 2002-07-16 10:04:00 right click on my computer and select manage
Select users and groups
Select the user with the problem and add them to power users group
If that doesn't work - try adding them to the administrator group to see if that works. Depends what happens to see what to do next.

62992 2002-07-17 06:21:00 That seems a bit extreme. The idea of poweruser and administrator groups is that only people who need special privileges should have them.
Checking spelling is not really such a dangerous operation that it needs to be used only by specially autorised users.

MS would not distribute spells or incantations which confer world domination when invoked. (They reserve such powerful magic for use by Bill) . ]:)

62993 2002-07-17 11:14:00 Power user and Administrator are local accounts.
On a network, the accounts are of no use unless the network passwords are the same, and there are similar accounts elsewhere with higher domain priveledges.
Unless the scenario involves locking down the PC to stop people installing software, then there is no harm.
If the PC has NTFS, then you can deny access to the specific user to whatever programs you like
I vaguely recall that there is also compatibility mode somewhere which may work around the problem
I resolve this issue regularly in this manner as a lot of software writes to the registry and certain protected files which power users are able to do.
Most people are very annoyed when they have a computer which won't let them do basic tasks.

62994 2002-07-18 06:04:00 I wouldn't get "very annoyed" if a computer stopped me doing basic things. I would get [expletiving expletively] angry . ]:) What the [expletive] are MS playing at? ;-) Graham L (2)
62995 2002-07-19 06:22:00 Thanks for your reply Marty, I added the user to the Power Users group and then they could get the spell checker.

Cheers
Lloyd
