| 63252 | 2002-07-22 00:39:00 | Don't try and look for an obscure reason why this maybe happening. It's right in front of you. Your running win98se with a 233 and 32 megs of ram. by the time the system loads up the startmenu etc ur 32megs is gone. Let alone trying to run antivirus software.(these take about 5mb themselves) then your trying to run a document editor (this could be anywhere from 2 - 30mb) All this means that windows uses your harddisk for caching. of which 98se is notorious for as its always playing around with it. Open up system monitor and just look at how much is avaliable under "unused physical memmory" and see how much you have. i bet it is practically nothing. Not to mention that because the computer is old, the seek times on the harddisk will be relatively high and the transfer rates relatively slow |

| 63253 | 2002-07-22 02:53:00 | Thanks peoples. I tell ya it gets real interesting when I have Dreamweaver, foreworks, a directory window, Eudora, notepad, and Opera all open at once. I have to shut down the AV to even get to this state! :^O Apparently I'm not the only one with this complaint. A search on the net revealed that this is a cammon trait with Presario laptops. |
