63808 2002-07-20 08:31:00 Hi all!

I posted a message a few days back regarding a rogue URL embedded in the background of my Address Bar.

Whenever I type in the letters "to" it appears in the drop down box of my address bar.

For example, I type in" www.to " and the following appears:
www.topcities.com/a/b/?.jpeg (where a, b, and ?.jpeg are the rest of the URL)

I've done everything I know to do (I've looked at FAQ 8b and done everything recommended in that FAQ). Is there somewhere in the registry that lists the ker to "?.jpeg" (I've searched for the key using "jpeg" but it comes up with nothing...)

I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out!! :-)

TIA,
Brian

63809 2002-07-20 08:48:00 To give a clue, is it one of "those" websites (one you would not want to visit knowingly..), as that domain is a free hosting site.

This may clue people in, as it could have been malicious script on a "nasty" page, however if its about stamp collecting or the like, its unlikely to be a deliberate act and may be a problem in your browser setup.

63811 2002-07-20 11:26:00 Brian, you might like to try deleting your "hidden" files now:

FAQ 9b (pressf1.co.nz)

Let us know how you get on. We haven't run out of tricks yet!

63812 2002-07-20 12:06:00 Perhaps the most painless would be a re-install of Internet Explorer, to try to remove the problem.

Its likely to be a malicious script has affected something.

63813 2002-07-21 00:13:00 I use PestPatrol and norton antivirus 2002 plus ad-aware , fix-It , and zonealarm pro plus windowwasher and popup killer all help inthe battle against these nasty spyware adware etc kiwibeat (304)
63814 2002-07-21 00:16:00 Also use GoBack which when all else fails can restore my PC back as it was up to 4 days ago kiwibeat (304)
63815 2002-07-21 01:30:00 GoBack is unlikely to assist anyone in this case, as it could be much more than 4 days before you are aware of a problem. Anyway Win ME and XP have restore function. godfather (25)
63816 2002-07-21 03:03:00 Hi Susan and all!

I downloaded Spider, ran it...no joy :-(

I tried the manual deletion...no joy :-(

Next trick please...

I really appreciate everybody's help!

I've tried uninstalling IE but I have Windows 98 and it only allows me to revert back to a previous version, which I've tried...no joy :-(

Thanx,
Brian
