63673 2002-07-20 02:49:00 Ok.... I have just nearly read the whole forum about windows xp shutdown problems....
The thing is my computer does not shutdown, it just restarts. Everything runs normal but after the 'windows is shutting down ' screen goes off it begins to restart.
I have tried most of the advice given on the forum, but nothing's solid enough. The computer does shut down 2/10 times.
Please HELP..... It's really getting to me.....
SOS!!!

63674 2002-07-20 03:51:00 So you did read this (pressf1.co.nz) and this (pressf1.co.nz hutdown#60328) thread then?

It worked for at least one person...

63675 2002-07-20 05:50:00 "Most Win XP shutdown problems reported thus far have been that it reboots when shutdown is attempted. This may be a global symptom emerging from several distinct causes, because, by default, XP executes an automatic restart in the event of a system failure. Therefore, more or less anything compromising the operating system during the shutdown process could force this reboot.

Disabling the “restart on system failure” feature may permit the exact cause to be isolated: Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under “Startup & Recovery,” click Settings. Under “System Failure,” uncheck the box in front of “System reboot.”"

Roxio CDRW software is No.1 suspect also...

63678 2002-07-20 09:23:00 You did mention it once, that's why I said that. ;-) Susan B (19)
63679 2002-07-20 11:34:00 Nooo... never mentioned it here....never intend to either!

Have you ever done a reading speed test/recognition test?
Fascinating area, high speed is often poor recognition. You easily get the wrong assumption. In my case its age related!!

Two words: eight letters by seven letters, both beginning with vowels .

I can't read fast - brain is too slow, especially when I'm tired . My PC must need a new battery, the time is now 10 minutes slow and I reset it only a few days ago . No wonder I'm nearly asleep . :D
