| 63592 | 2002-07-19 14:25:00 | All my dos applications (wordperfect, XP's edit.exe, everything else), 1 ends up in small windows showing only a few lines. 2 when in full screen mode has messy blurry fonts, and goes off the edge of the screen, which cannot be changed? Though XP's own command prompt quite happily operates in a full screen sized window, and in full screen mode with nice clear font! I note this operates with properties>layout>screen buffer size>width 170, height 85, window size width 170, height 85. Question 1: I've tried right clicking the programme, creating shortcuts, altering above settings but they just go right back to width 80, height 25 on exiting the properties screen. Ditto when right click>defaults are altered. How do you get the settings to stick??? Question 2: In full screen mode, how can you set decent fonts? I have got several different fonts in different programmes, and can change none of them. Question 3: My graphics are all messed up in WordPerfect 5.1 - none of the factory options works (it's a PC Company laptop) - and I can't find any drivers to fit - any one solved this one??? Cheers |

| 63593 | 2002-07-19 21:19:00 | Considering XP is the first Windows OS to not have DOS, I am surprised WP5.1 even works! DOS functions are emulated only, and not fully supported. Having said that, setting properties on dos shortcuts appears to work for me, but in your case WP5.1 may override? You may need to consider upgrading your programs, even though WP5.1 was very good for its day. Also if you are using XP, do you have administrator rights on your log-in? That may limit your control if you do not. |

| 63594 | 2002-07-25 22:54:00 | thanks for that. I like WP51. It's faster, more powerful and easier to customise than Word. I have keyboards, precedents and macros which are nigh impossible to create in Word and then don't work or take eons to execute. I've found some answers - SOMETIMES the window size properties alteration seems to work, possibly by creating new shortcuts, and/or right clicking the programme exe file itself - can't figure out how I did it now. As for the yucky font in full screen, I was told to change compatibility options to run in 640x480 resolution (or whatever the measurements are), that didn't fix it. Someone said it's the font supplied by WXP for those windows, that there are only 2 yucky ones supplied, and offers to sell a range of decent fonts. Seems to me I already have a range of lovely fonts both for windows, and from my previous OS's, Any ideas on how to make it find and use a decent font?? Vicki |
