| 63518 | 2002-07-19 08:38:00 | My friends dad works for microsoft, so i got a free copy of the Windows XP pro setup files (transfured from his notebook a network) and a free product key. I am planing to format my harddrive and duel boot windows Xp with windows Me so i can run software that i otherwise cant on XP and windows XP is running really badly (dont bother giving me other ways to fix windows running badly). Anyway to re-install xp i am going to burn the xp setup files to cd (which my friends dad doesn't want me to do) and use my product key to re-install XP. My problem is that i never wrote my product down any where. do you know if i can find my product KEY not product id in the regestry anywhere. i can find it in any other version of windows in Hkey local machine/ software/ windows(nt)/current version but it isn't there in Xp. Please healp me. I really need to find that product key (not product id!!!!) | fusion027 (1116) | ||
| 63519 | 2002-07-19 09:09:00 | It sounds like your copy of XP is a corporate version, activated by a corporate key. These are volume licensed and not for "free" distribution. Unless your dads friend was Bill Gates, it is doubtful that what you are attempting to do is legal, Julian. Perhaps this is why the "donor" of the software does not want you to burn it to a CD. I do not think that the hosts of this forum would agree to be party to assist in the pirating of software |

| 63521 | 2002-07-19 10:06:00 | It sounds like your friends dad was rather foolish to do what he did. Corp editions of XP are particularly favoured for piracy as they don't have product activation. No wonder he doesn't want you putting it on CD, cause once it is on CD and you have the key, it is pirate gold. Do yourself and the guy a favour and ditch this illegal copy. If you really want XP pro, go buy it. If you don't need it buy the home edition. If you don't need XP at all, stick with ME. Nuf said. |
