| 64048 | 2002-07-21 10:15:00 | well i hate to say this but win me is very buggy, unstable and can't handle many programs running in the background when u r doing something like playing games or creating graphics.[runs and ducks under table] yeah, i used to have win me it used to always freeze then i had to restart and i had allsorts of problems with the OS, but i upgraded to win xp pro and everything is fine. i suggest u do the same. but i feel that it might not be the OS cos other people on this forum r fine with Win Me so it could be ur graphics card maybe? try get the latest drivers for it. hope that helped. cheers, v.K---------- :D |

I had a problem with my computer freezing and the sound repeating it self. It turned out to be the sound card conflicting with my mother board. You may also want to check the error reports to see what it tells you. I think ME has error reporting, I'm not sure as I don't have ME but I'm sure someone else on this forum will point you in the right direction. |

| 64051 | 2002-07-24 02:14:00 | I have run Win ME at home for nearly 2 years now and have no problems . I thrash the PC with game play - HL mods like CS and Day of Defeat, CFS2, FS2002, and a long list of others and have had no problems . I also use it extensively with graphic apps - Photoshop and Pianter 7 . So - I wouldn't just go blaming ME and saying XP is better . XP has its own problems as a games platform and I have resisted switching to it because of this . If CS crashes: the usual suspects . 1] Uninstall HL and CS and do a clean installation of both (back-up any config files you want to keep first) . 2] Downlaod and install latest video drivers for your card . I've run Nvidia's drivers with mine without problems (rather than the card manufacturer's drivers) . 3] Try different screen resolutions in game . Also try using OpenGL or DirectX modes . 4] Disable background tasks . Personally, I've never had to do this but it depends on what you've got runnign in background . And naturally, don't have any ohter apps open while playing the game . |

Drivers are often buggy on first release. Video card drivers particularly are often updated. If you are using a Geforce card, go to www.nvidia.com (http://www.nvidia.com) to download the latest drivers for your card. Nvidia manufacture the chip your video card is running on. Apps: shorhand for applications, programs. In other words when you wantt o play, shut down other memory hogging programs and just run the game. >and i already use opengl HL offers 3 video modes. Software, which doe snot use hardware accleration (the whole point of your cool video card) and therefore is your last resort. OpenGL generally the best mode. However, you can also try Direct3D which is Microsoft's rival 3D, hardware accelrated standard. If you are having probs with OpenGL, try switching to Direct3D to see if the problem persists. You might also try dropping the screen res down to 800 x 600. The general ide here is to find out whether your game crash happens with various different game setups or whether it is isolated to a particular mode or resolution. As suggested above, sound card drivers can also cause probelms, so check the web site of your sound card manufacturer for the lastes drivers. |
