2002-07-23 02:37:00 | Hi, and thanks for any help in advance . . My friends have two computers networked using RJ45 cable . One is Win2K Pro, the other is WinXP Pro . The two computers are able to see each other within windows, ie . they appear in the network neighbourhoods, they can transfer files, ping each other, and the network connections in the taskbar appear active and working . However under no multiplayer game (we've tried: Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Command and Conquer) can these two computers 'see' each other ie . one person starts a multiplayer game, but the other cannot detect it to connect . Gaming used to work fine when both computers were running Win2K . In XP, the internet firewall is switched off, and IP filtering is switch off . If anybody knows what steps I can take to identify and fix the problem that would be most appreciated . Lindsay

2002-07-23 02:47:00 | They both have Client for Microsoft Networks File and Print Sharing TCP/IP set up. I have checked the TCP/IP settings and I think they are right.. but, it would make sense that the problem is in TCP/IP... hmm.... Is there any merit in un-installing and re-installing the TCP/IP protocols?

2002-07-23 03:59:00 | We've tried Quake3, Unreal Tournament, Command & Conquer (Renegade). We're definitely looking for local servers.. | LindsaySmith (922) | |
2002-07-23 04:17:00 | oh well, i cant help you, cause i have none of those games | mejobloggs (264) | |
2002-07-23 04:36:00 | its been a while since i've lanned q3 but all i can think of is to make sure, in q3, you specify the ip of the server instead of searching for it or something is blocking those ports. possibly a firewall. sorry i really havn't played with XP a whole lot. | tweak'e (174) | |
2002-07-23 08:40:00 | What about adding an IPX/SPX protocol, if It's not picking up TCP/IP, then maybe a different protocol owuld work? I've not got those games, so I dunno how they operate, but I'm pretty sure most games still let you use that (Or do they???) Jo

2002-07-23 21:26:00 | Well.. on some informed advice I downloaded and installed the latest Realtek drivers for the network cards and doublechecked all IP settings. We managed to get Medal of Honour working no problems.. so it would seem that everything is OK now... if individual games don't work I know it must be the game itself now... Thanks to everyone for advice.. Lindsay
