64442 2002-07-23 02:35:00 Hi

I am currently running a P3 667 mhz Socket 370 with 256 meg RAM.

I wish to upgrade the CPU and was wondering what the best (read: cheapest) option to do so, utilising my existing motherboard etc. Can I use a Celeron processor, or would this be a downgrade, even with an increase in mhz?

I don't have the $$$ to change the motherboard.

Any thoughts, suggestions as to best value for the money, and preferred suppliers would be appreciated, thanks.

64443 2002-07-23 03:01:00 first thing is to work out what motherboard you have, check on the manfactures web site for info on what processors it supports (you may need bios upgrade so check what bios upgrades the site has).

after that its a matter of finding a cpu. p3's are no longer made, best bet will be 2nd hand. you can still get celerons but you will need a big increase in MHZ to make it worth while. ie at least a 1ghz celeron.

fastest optoin is proberly 1ghz p3 IF your motherboard can support it.
