64351 2002-07-22 10:51:00 How do I reformat my PC hard drive? I want to install a new operating system (linux) from scratch. bba12 (1139)
64352 2002-07-22 11:02:00 depends wot OS u have, if u have win xp then u can reformat off the cd this is also the same with win2000, i think win 95,98 & ME all need bootup disks which r to be inserted when u start the compter and it goes into default dos mode from there u can use the basic dos commands if u know them. i not sure of the commands but others should help u out, but wot OS r u using?

cheers,

Do you want to have only Linux installed? If so, then just install linux - it'll give you the option of formating your hard drive during the installation.

64354 2002-07-23 04:13:00 If it is set up to boot Windows, just use any MS boot floppy to boot, then use FDISK to delete all MS partitions. That will let you use the simplest installation. If you don't remove the MS partitiions, you will have to use "Expert" installation. Linux will do the partitioning and formatting, very well if you give it an "empty" unallocated disk. Graham L (2)
