64321 2002-07-22 09:54:00 Installed PCI Card 2 Port USB in addition to existing two ports. Running XP Home Edition that detected hardware as “OPTi 82C861 PCI to USB Open Host Controller”. All items in the list under USB Controllers within device manager show “This device is working properly”.

When I connect any of the devices, that all worked in the existing ports, “Unknown Device” is displayed with the message “No drivers are installed for this device”

Have tried to no avail:
1. uninstall and automatic re-install of the USB drivers.
2. reinstall of software for printer, ADSL modem and digital camera

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

64322 2002-07-22 10:21:00 reinstall the pci card and do a check to see if the pci port is working correctly by going to control panel, then check if u have used the generic drivers that windows supplies to usb drives, cos some times this causes problems, then try to see if u can use a generic driver that has worked with the other usb drives. hope that helped.

cheers,

64323 2002-07-22 10:55:00 From a 30 second look on google....

The new PCI/USB Host Controller should be sharing the SAME IRQ as the onboard USB Host Controller.
All 1.1 cards require only one IRQ and should share an IRQ with the onboard USB Host Controller.
Check your mainboard manual or the manufacturers web site before you insert the card.
You will need to change PCI slots if the card installs on another IRQ or is sharing an IRQ with a device other than USB

64324 2002-07-23 11:02:00 Everything looks OK against the pointers you've given me. Unfortunately still no go and the shop's given me a replacement card in case the first was faulty. Thinking they're not XP compatible so I'll find something that is.

Thanks for your assistance.
