64244 2002-07-22 07:09:00 Recently, I tried downloading a word document containing some information. Or at least, it said it was a word document, but it was actually an exe file. Now, whenever I start up winXP pro, an MSDOS window comes up, with nothing in it, then shuts off, then again, then closes. Is this normal? I've tried fiddling with msconfig, but no luck. jeffreyyan (719)

Have you done a virus scan?

64246 2002-07-22 11:56:00 try going and typing msconfig into the run panel and it will come up with tabs got to start up tab or go to windows registry tab and look at all the files, write down the name of those files that look suspicios to u and use rob's scanware, it tells u wot filetype a file is, it was on this month's pc world cd. then scan with norton's av and if there is no virus it may have infected ur registry settings then take a look at this (www.greatis.com) site for info on any registry file and its value.

cheers,
