64156 2002-07-22 02:41:00 Hi,

I just brought and installed Win XP Pro. The problem is that when I right click on the "desktop" and choose "properties" then "settings", i only see the words "default monitor on" i.e. there is no video card mentioned. i went the nvidia site got the latest drivers and installed them but then windows says that the device is not working (code 10 error). with windows drivers, windows doesn't detect a problem but still won't play movies or games. please please help with any suggestions. the only drivers that sort off worked by playing a movie was a win 2000 one but that doesn't play any of the new games that come on the pc world cd.

64157 2002-07-22 02:53:00 I am also having the same problem with my Nvidia Card. Mine is a PCI Card what is yours?

Another thing when did you update your drivers. Because they have just updated the drivers about a week ago

I haven't tried it so I don't know if it works, I sure hope it does.

64158 2002-07-22 03:39:00 If your motherboard has a VIA chipset, have you installed the 4in1 drivers after loading XP? Without the AGP driver from the 4in1, the video card won't be recongnised. wuppo (41)
64159 2002-07-26 03:25:00 wuppo could u please go into more details. also whats the "4in1" drivers. duncanam (1153)
64160 2002-07-26 04:26:00 Most modern motherboards require drivers, like all other peripherals in your computer. The 4 in 1 drivers are for people who's motherboard has chips on it made by VIA. If you have a motherboard with Intel chips you'd need to get the appropriate Intel drivers etc.

Regarding you problem, how did you go about installing XP? Did you upgrade, or make a fresh install?
Have you tried going into XP using Safe Mode (press F8 when windows is starting)?
While in safe mode have a look in Device Manager (right click on My Computer and click Manage)
Try deleting the Video Adapter out of Device Manager and rebooting. See if it redetects the card.
After that, rerun the video card driver setup ( the Detonator Drivers)

Does the account you are logging on as have full permissions? If not you will likely not be able to install the drivers.

Try going into the BIOS when the computer first starts up (press DEL). Check that the option to 'Assign IRQ for VGA' is Enabled

Good Luck!!

64161 2002-07-26 05:36:00 See Biffs reply re: 4in1 drivers. XP seems to have drivers for Intel based chipsets, so the AGP card is normally recognised. VIA based motherboards seem to need the 4in1 drivers installed. If you can mention the Make and model of your motherboard, we can advise what chipset it has. wuppo (41)
64162 2002-07-31 05:03:00 hi thanks for the input so far. i know my motherboard is an intel pentium 4 original motherboard. i don't know what version it is however. while booting the screen that normally displays the motherboard info just shows the intel logo with no specific motherbaord info. duncanam (1153)
