1307716 2012-10-20 04:07:00 Hi all.

I'm running Windows XP Home and have a copy of Windows 7, on a DVD disk.

My question is, how do I load Windows 7 on as a dual boot, with XP?

The disk just gives an option to install and I don't want it to wipe my XP, yet.

:thanks

Ian

1307717 2012-10-20 04:17:00 Boot from the Win7 DVD. Dont run it in XP. Also, make sure there is another partition on the hdd. So, you can install Win7 on it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1307718 2012-10-20 04:30:00 I don't think you can resize partitions from the Windows 7 installer, so you'll need to use GParted to shrink the Windows XP partition and add a new one. Then install Windows 7 as normal, selecting the new blank partition. pcuser42 (130)
1307719 2012-10-20 04:34:00 Hi Speedy.
My hard disk presently has 2 partitions, is that gona be a problem?

Reason I partitioned it was because it's a 500 GB drive.

1307720 2012-10-20 04:35:00 Thats fine, just make sure you install Win7 on the right partition. Otherwise, you'll format / install over XP Speedy Gonzales (78)
1307721 2012-10-20 04:36:00 So Pcuser, you are saying I should make up a new, blank, partition?

Mr Speedy says no other partitions.

I'm confused:confused:

1307722 2012-10-20 04:37:00 So do I make up a blank partition?

Formatted NTFS?

1307723 2012-10-20 04:43:00 You say you have two partitions. If so, is one empty? If so, install Win 7 on it. Bryan (147)
1307724 2012-10-20 04:46:00 No I have my Documents folder, on it and a few backups.
So do I make a 3rd partition?
