1307632 2012-10-19 08:03:00 Does anyone remember how to fix this problem in Win2K at startup displaying the message "Preparing the Network Connections" for a couple of minutes before running perfectly fine.

I am using Win2k in VirtualBox on Win7Pro and have run into this problem.

I also have a networked Win2K machine that I maintain that also suffers from this problem which is why I am looking into it.

Google gives me this:

"{To work around this problem, add the ProtectedStorage dependency to the DHCP Client service. To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Dhcp
In the details pane, double-click DependOnService.
In the Value data box, position the pointer underneath any existing values, type ProtectedStorage, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the DHCP Client service."

However I can't complete - "In the Value data box, position the pointer underneath any existing values, type ProtectedStorage" I just can't manipulate the pointer to the position they detail.

Anyone remember this?????

1307633 2012-10-19 10:55:00 Ok, this particular problem is a known one with VirtualBox and Win2K and can be worked around by doing the following:

"It appears to be solved by changing the "VirtualBox Guest Additions Service" from Automatic to Manual, then never actually starting it"

Of course this is done within the "Guest OS" Services accessed through Control Panel. Right click, change from Automatic to Manual Start, it will be showing 'Starting' but never does. Ok out.

Then restart Guest OS, hopefully a lot quicker, works for me.
