1307469 2012-10-18 08:15:00 While you're in Win8?? It just happened to a mate in IRC. Win8 by itself (not dual booting with anything), it rebooted for some reason, then said the hdd was inaccessible?

The same thing happened here, after I installed a few updates. I rebooted it said the same thing (except mine is dual booting with Win7).

Lucky for me after a few resets, Win8 restored mine back to before I installed the Win8 updates. But, it looks like the mate will have to reinstall Win8. Just seems strange Win8 would do this for no reason at all.

1307470 2012-10-18 09:17:00 The RC ( and Preview) versions did have some bugs in the system, hence that's why that are test versions. The RTM is meant to have bugs sorted. (could be the cause)

Only trouble I've had with W8 RTM, is twice today it crashed, but then again to be fair it was taking a real hiding at the time lol :D - any OS would have done it I suspect.

Did have a problem with the RC, but that was a Driver/CPU issue that MS fixed.

This is only a guess, but the problem may be because of the early release versions. The RTM has changed the hardware requirements (not outwardly) but "in the required spec" of installing they have changed, Some PC's that run the RC/Preview wont run the RTM.

Has your mate tried the Recovery CD, theres a few more options with Windows 8.

1307471 2012-10-18 09:27:00 Hmm ok. He's probably formatted it by now lol. But I don't think he could even get pass the menu.. I couldnt either, (mine crashed before the OS selection menu), until it restored the system. After so many resets Speedy Gonzales (78)
1307472 2012-10-18 21:10:00 My copy of Windows 8 on the desktop did that too... Ended up reinstalling the Windows 7 bootloader to get Windows 7 working as well

Luckily there wasn't much on that partition so it was a simple format and reinstall.
