1307229 2012-10-16 22:44:00 Recently I have found that I have this extremely annoying pop-up offering to scan my computer every time I visit a site via Mozilla Firefox.
Can someone please help me to kill the thing?
Much appreciated.

1307230 2012-10-16 22:52:00 Into the firefox address bar, type about:config .Type wizebar into the search box, and right click and select 'reset' on the results, that should do it. Wouldn't hurt to run the usual scans as well, malwarebytes, mse, superantispyware and the like.

Note - you'll probably find this will appear in internet explorer as well. Can you test this?

the results didn't match what I expected to see so I did nothing. Can you make your instructions a little more clear?
Thanks

Sure. Into the firefox address bar (not the search bar), type 'about:config'. You will get a message saying something like 'Be careful. This may void you warranty'. There is no warranty in firefox to void, this is just a warning to be careful. Click the 'I'll be careful, I promise!' button and you will get something like the screenshot. Type wizebar into the seach bar (second screenshot shows which one), and you should get a list of entries. Note my screenshot shows no matching entries, just as I don't have the wizebar problem. Right click on the entries the search brings up, and left click on the reset button.

Hope that clear things up.

EDIT - Attachments arrive. :)

Yes that was what I did but no entry for wizebar. Nothing came up after entering the search, just an empty window which I take to mean that I don't have this thing.:(

1307234 2012-10-17 06:16:00 One quick thing you can try, run Ccleaner, clean out all the temp files. Lately Theres a few of these popups that are sitting in temp internet files, and not actually installing as such.

But as Nick said, run the antimalware as well.

1307235 2012-10-18 23:10:00 Yep, did that Wainui, still pops up seems to be on sites like Stuff and Trade me. Not on PF1. theother1 (3573)
1307236 2012-10-18 23:27:00 Have you ran any antimalware yet? Nick G (16709)
1307237 2012-10-19 03:02:00 Yes ran full scan with Avast, Nada. Will run Malwarebytes and see what that sees. theother1 (3573)
1307238 2012-10-19 03:11:00 Yes ran full scan with Avast, Nada. Will run Malwarebytes and see what that sees.
I'd also use Spybot and Superantispyware. A run with Nod32 online scanner wouldn't hurt as well.
