1307129 2012-10-16 09:20:00 I have a friend who would like some articles scanned and converted to word processor files of some sort. He is not capable of scanning the documents as his computer knowledge is very limited and because I know next to nothing about Linux I cannot help him in that way so I wondered if I could scan the documents for him and save them as Word files. The problem is that I have XP as an OS and he runs Linux. Is there a way that I can convert my Word files to something that he can access on Linux? Is that something that can be done in a Windows environment?

Your suggestions and help would be appreciated. Thanks.:thanks

1307130 2012-10-16 09:40:00 Linux is the Operating system.

If he has something like Open office, Libre Office installed, it "should" be able to read the word Documents ( he can always download it and install).

There are times it wont read correctly, I have ( and know of others as well) that have several Documents that Open Office wont read correctly.

Both mentioned programs are Free, so nothing to lose from trying.

1307131 2012-10-16 10:11:00 Scan them as images and then he can use OCRFeeder to convert them to an editable file. mikebartnz (21)

1307133 2012-10-16 20:57:00 Thanks for your help, Wainui. I will have a look at those two programmes.

Mikebartnz: While that sounds a good idea, my friend only has the very basics when it comes to operating a computer. What you say is fine for me but I can't imagine him doing that so I will try Open Office first. Thanks for your suggestion.
