1306987 2012-10-15 11:28:00 Got a laptop that had a Belkin wired mouse that started to stop/start working. I determined it was the mouse but the client has kept using it until now - it is dead.
I plugged in another 3 mice and it will go through the found new hardware, go to Windows updates and download the driver and either error saying driver is corrupt or cannot find a driver. No wired or wireless mouse will install.

These are all USB (no PS2 installed) and all ports are working with other devices. This is only a mouse issue.

I can find no software (Belkin or other) that would interfer with the mouse.

AV is Eset.

Device manager shows no issues and no event logs except for what I have already stated.

I have also loaded default Bios settings. Same result in safe mode.

The mice should just work so there is a corrupt file somewhere. Any clues??
Cheers

1306989 2012-10-21 21:53:00 All mice that you are testing, are they Belkin?
Or mixed brand?

I would likely go through the list:
Try different USB ports
Does the laptop accept PS/2.. if so find a wired mouse with PS/2 connection
Uninstall mouse/touchpad. Reinstall
Uninstall USB. Reinstall
Reinstall mobo drivers

1306991 2012-10-21 22:29:00 See if there's a USB legacy option under USB in the BIOS. Whats this on? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1306992 2012-10-26 09:31:00 OK got this sorted once I stopped and thought about it. With a usb mouse plugged in I went to device manager and uninstalled it along with the driver. Then a scan for new hardware and it reinstalled the driver and all good. Of course nothing to uninstall when the mouse wasn't plugged in. berryb (99)
