1283561 2012-06-23 10:18:00 We just found out today that the house we are planning to move to has no phone line! Not a problem get one put in...When I found out that the neighbours can not get broadband due to the location I was a little less impressed given the fancy new fibre cable runs less than a km away on the main highway. Before you say mobile broad band!!!! Nope no Vodafone coverage and Telecom only works in on part of the house :mad::mad:

Oh well back to snail band or more expensive satelite.

1283563 2012-06-23 21:54:00 Where are you? Many fixed wireless operators now all over the country, cheaper than satellite and pretty good speeds. I'm with Netspeed. Hopper (14491)
1283564 2012-06-23 22:28:00 That's why when we're looking for flats, houses, the first thing we do is check Vodafone signal, weak signal and we'll move on to another property. SKT174 (1319)
1283565 2012-06-23 22:36:00 You can get a signal booster for vodafone, they have one out at the Te Henga quarry. Works well I transfer my fone to the office there and the lady calls up on the radio if another job comes in. prefect (6291)

If you're talking about the femtocells then they fed off broadband.

Rural but not that rural just happens to be more than 5kms from the nearest exchange. The terrain also prevents clear cellphone coverage. I need to investigate this further we may scrap in but I know a neighbour 500 metrs further up the road has difficulty with BB.

1283568 2012-06-24 02:56:00 I use an 11m high external yagi for my sierra 306 t-stick then the t-stick is plugged into my netcomm 3g wireless router so I can be anywhere on our
property and use my netbook on the web. I am 65km away from the cell tower on Mt Rochfort near Westport.
Occasionally it fails to find a signal but that's just the 20m hill covered in huge Rata trees directly in the way causing that.
If you only have signal in one part of the place put an external antenna there with one of the 3g / wifi routers.

Expensive webs though on mobile, better if you can just squeak in with the ol' ADSL if poss.

1283569 2012-06-24 03:15:00 See if you can get a connection onto that fibre trunk, hook up with Orcon with one of their 1000gb plans for $200 and send the broadband over wireless. Lease the connection to neighbours at a cost. I'm sure you can make something off it, at the very least enough to cover expenses. Unless the terrain prevents WiFi The Error Guy (14052)

They wouldn't get BB out there would they? Its literally in the sticks.
