1283486 2012-06-22 23:18:00 It could be argued that without him a lot of this would not be happening.

Google him for yourselves, but here's an interesting starting point (ibnlive.in.com).

1283487 2012-06-23 01:10:00 He was a convicted criminal. prefect (6291)
1283488 2012-06-23 01:16:00 He was a convicted criminal.

Relevance to computer design?

1283489 2012-06-23 01:18:00 He was a convicted criminal.

Oh you mean he was homosexual back when it was illegal and they gave him injections of female hormone.
Yeah, thanks Turing for saving our arses during the war, now we'll punish you for something that isn't our business.
Poor guy.

1283490 2012-06-23 01:30:00 You mean the **** **** he shortened the war by years.
I don't buy it because we would have fried German ass with a nuke in 1945. Made our conventional incendiary fire bombing raids on Dresden and Cologne look like a bar fight.
Cant rewrite history he broke the law.

Could have guessed you'd say something like that prefect :D

1283492 2012-06-23 05:28:00 What an extremely clever man, so badly treated though. His Turing machine is the very thing which inspires a great majority of scientists in AI to this day.

So, have any of you completed the six tasks in the google doodle yet?

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. If it were not for Alan Turing the war would have continued for another few years killing countless millions.

For your edification and education, Alan Turing was instrumental in decoding the German Enigma codes that allowed the Allies to listen in to all the German coded messages which meant that they knew all that the Germans were up to. This knowledge helped shorten the war. The Germans were convinced that their Enigma codes were secure.

The main problem they had with decoding the signals is that by the time they were decoded the event mentioned in the signal had already happened. Alan Turing invented a machine called The Bombe which sped up the decoding so that they could read the German messages in almost real time. The Bombe was the forerunner of today's computer. The system that it used is very similar to the system used by today's computers.

You need to read up on Alan Turing to complete your education concerning the Second World War.

You need to read up when the nuclear bomb was ready for use.
