| 1283045 | 2012-06-20 12:08:00 | A mother accused of drink-driving attempted to drive off after crashing into a power pole with three young children in her car . The 28-year-old woman hit the pole in Bower Ave, Christchurch, about 2 . 20pm yesterday . Police say she recorded a breath alcohol reading of 1409 micrograms per litre of breath . The legal breath-alcohol limit is 400mcg for drivers over 20 . Canterbury road policing manager Inspector Al Stewart said there were three children in the car under the age of five, including one who was unrestrained . ''Fortunately the vehicle was travelling slowly and nobody was injured, but this driver is recklessly putting children's lives at risk by driving drunk and not using restraints . '' Stewart said the driver initially attempted to drive off after hitting the power pole, but was stopped by a member of the public who reached in, removed the car keys and called police . ''It is absolutely and totally unacceptable . . . she has shown no remorse, she is just charging ahead . '' Stewart said the driver was issued with an immediate suspension and has been charged with excess breath alcohol . Further charges relating to the crash are likely . And the woman driver who got pulled up in the North Island, she was pissed, had 2 kids jumping around in the back seat (which is why the cop pulled her over) and had another 8-9 month old kid sitting in her lap.
