1283496 2012-06-23 07:26:00 In some countries he could have been executed for homosexual behaviour. He should have thanked his lucky stars he was in England where it was only a jail-able offence. You cant apply low standards we have now days with behaviour deemed to be against the law in the past.
Sure he was an good mathematician but he was a crook.

1283498 2012-06-24 02:22:00 It also used to be illegal to drive a car faster than walking pace, and they were considered so sinister that a man had to walk ahead of the car to worn others of the mechanical monster that was coming.

It's also been illegal to make recordings of most of what we see and hear on TV and radio, yet we largely ignore those laws when it suits our own interests.

Lots of laws seem absurd in hindsight, and simply existed to satisfy the vocal majority at the time.

1283499 2012-06-24 02:52:00 There is a recent book "Turings Cathedral" by Dyson (can't rmember his first name). I haven't read it but have it on order. Brucem (8688)
1283500 2012-06-24 04:09:00 You need to read up when the nuclear bomb was ready for use.

I am well aware when the nuclear bomb was ready for use, but that is not the issue here. There was no talk of using nuclear weapons against the Germans.

The best advantage that the Poms had was their ability to read the German Enigma codes throughout the Second World War. They knew well in advance what the Germans were going to do and in war that is a BIG advantage.

You getting your Bombe and bombs mixed up, la

You obviously need to read up about the bombe.

He killed himself. You have no compassion.
Sure you're not religious?
He never harmed anyone, so why must everyone live according to your narrow little ideals.

Try convincing a wall and see how you go.

To deny Turing, there has to be something missing!

1283505 2012-06-24 11:14:00 Have to agree on prefect with one point, you can't rewrite the law. It was an offence at the time and he was convicted. Whether we see it as right or wrong now is irrelevant. Just as caning a child is illegal today, 30 years ago it was most acceptable.

Still, I admire his skill. Enjoyed using the google doodle.
