They aren't boats for pursuit so much as they are fast for getting to the site of the splashdown. Once the runners are in the river - vehicle and all - they are scooped up by Mexicans and hauled with the drugs back to the Mexican shoreline - safe from US officials. Since aircraft cannot, by law, shoot while in the air, the helicopters aren't armed with any more than the officer's own personal sidearm. There MIGHT be a shotgun inside, but no fixed, trainable weaponry is allowed unless it's a military aircraft then all bets are off ---- up to nuclear weapons. |
