| 1283434 | 2012-06-22 18:24:00 | Well not here yet,down to $0.82 GB (Crucial m4 2.5" 256GB) and here $388 ($1.51 GB) techreport.com This will be the next upgrade I planning on but not at the current prices here They wonder why people shop online,sure duty +GST+shipping will add to the price but still a sizeable diff |

I now think that I need one that is at least twice that size so that I can comfortably put my system and programme files on a larger SSD. The price put me off buying a larger one. | 1283440 | 2012-06-23 04:28:00 | Yeah I don't mind, I keep *just* my OS and core 3 games on my 90GB SSD. Other things don't *need* high speed access, in fact it's kinda stupid storing all your MP3s on the likes of a solid state when a normal hard drive is significantly cheaper per-GB. You don't have any reason to have 500MB/sec access to your MP3s / Videos / Images when a standard HDD running at 40MB/sec is sufficiently excessive as-is. It's easy to bag solid state drives when you've never tried them, reminds me of people who used to say Dial-Up was fine and there was no need to pay the extra for ASDL... My how times have changed! |

| 1283441 | 2012-06-23 06:52:00 | Of course it makes sense not to use them for storage. But then it's the OS that will hit drives the hardest, with lots of writes. I know they're faster, but they're more expensive. Also, as someone pointed out in another thread, even 100GB isn't really enough for OS anymore. And you would miss half the point of an SSD if you have to install most of your programs\games on a slower hard drive. |

On this PC, I have the OS, all the programs I use daily and quite a few that I use only once in a while, some pictures as well as email etc, with a grand total of 49.9GB used from a 250GB drive. All the music, Videos , Photos etc totalling many TB's ( more than I care to total up) are all on other storage devices, either servers or NAS devices, all connected over the LAN. |
