1469164 2020-06-01 03:16:00 My Toshiba Latitude 3440 worked fine with Windows 7 but slowed right down after Windows 10 was installed. I still want to use for streaming music from the internet and it does do that, but I think if I can reinstall Windows 7 I can use it more and more effectively. To reinstall what are the main things to consider before starting apart from backing up programs and drivers? Krad (7878)
1469165 2020-06-01 03:55:00 I definitely wouldn't rush back into the dead end of win 7.

Win 10 runs very well on quite modest specs so I would try to find out where the slowness is coming from.

A good start for others to help would be to describe where you are seeing delays.

1469166 2020-06-01 04:07:00 Windows 10 runs far better than W7 on lower Spec hardware.

If its been upgraded from W7 then thats the first Mistake , some of the corruptions and crap that are in W7 will have been copied across.

BUT on saying that, theres 3 things you can do to get speed up almost instantly.

I could write it all out but easier (and quicker to show) The time the below video runs ( apart from a restart) is really how long it takes. 33 second Video ---I've gone slower to demonstrate other wise its quicker.

From Start Open the settings ( Second Icon up from start Button, looks like a cog) Then do this ---- streamable.com

After rebooting open task manager / Start up tab / Disable everything you don't HAVE to have running.( Normally its just about everything)

1469167 2020-06-01 11:21:00 I tried to install Win10 on this old PC, Intel Core2 Duo CPU E7500 2.93Hz, 4GB RAM

It failed to install. it just keep on spinning. Couldn't remember at which stage, but it's at the very initial stage for sure.

Gave up and keep my Win7.

1469168 2020-06-01 21:55:00 Win10 runs like a PIG on some oldish machines. Yes, it does :-)
Even some new low spec notebooks run like a pig on 10 (probably those new notebooks would have been run like a pig on Win7 as well)

So, your Hard drive may be running too slow
You may have not enough RAM for Win10 to run efficiency (especially with old school mechanical HD's)
Win10 may be trying to install updates, slowing things down
You may have other apps running in the background slowing things down .

Since you will have to wipe & re-install to go back to 7....
Try a clean install of WIn10 & see how that runs. 10 has a repair option that will do a clean re-install for you.

A SSD HD & some more RAM are probably all you need to get 10 running at a descent speed.

1469172 2020-06-02 00:58:00 Liked BH's W7 running on 2MB mem and HDD.

Replaced HDD to solid state drive and 8gig mem and W10 and what does she have!!!.

Must get it off Auto updates completely as it appears to stuff up Outlook.com's email as well as everything else "games' one example.

Will go away and do that update thingy right now, lol.

lurking.

ps. my laptop is a dog as well, even on manual updates.
