1468979 2020-05-26 21:07:00 Contact your ISP if you are not getting what you are meant to. Often its not the computer.

Please clarify a bit better as well the meaning of "megs" There's Megabytes or Megabits, 140 MB = 1120 Mbit. When ISP's quote speeds its usually in Megabits.

What do you call "slow a molasses" ?? Could be where you are getting data from, if in NZ it will be faster than say from USA. Also depends on if you are running any VPN's they will also be slower.

Example, if I want to test my speed I usually download Linux Mint from NZ - Canterbury www.linuxmint.com just tried it now (8.00am) took 25 Seconds for 1.9GB , sometimes slower sometimes faster.

That is NOT slow .
Its much faster than my ADSL connection
At one stage my internet was 5Mbs down . Still 100% usuable .

You may have other issues if you think that speed is slow as molasses
Also , what speed did you sign up for.
Are you on fibre , VDSL or Wireless Internet ?
How are you testing your speed , OOKLA ?

Are you connected via wifi , bad wifi is a fairly common cause of internet issues

The main part of mine is 10 years old.
140mbps is fast, if that's what you meant.

Slow where? How?
Over subscribed servers can affect download speed, lag on video playback can be server end....or wifi lag.

1468982 2020-05-27 09:27:00 Lately I have been noticing odd speeds from local, literally flatlining at 150 to 200Mbps. The fact that it is a flatline to me means some form of restriction is in place but I would have expected to see more complaints appearing or everyone has just accepted that theres more people at home so it is expected.

Overseas it seems to need warming up from that flatlining till it reaches around 600Mbps, which is OK but not impressive.

This slowness is a strange one though but I haven't got the time to be walked through by my ISP yet, also, they going through a takeover process.

How soon we forget.
I remember dialling into the bulletin board, the one with 6 phone lines in, oh wow, and walking off for 1/2 a day while things uploaded or downloaded. Or over night....

And not that long ago, 1mbps adsl before I moved back to the north island.
