Being “Old School” “Cash was King” and many a good deal was done by showing up with the cash.

However, I struck one in Aus a few years back when I wanted a rental car for about a month.

I got quotes from various rental outfits, sorted them out, found one that looked a good deal, so off I went to pick it up.

There was the normal chatter, terms and conditions etc. Then I dropped the bombshell and the conversation went like this:

How much for cash.

We don’t take cash.

What, I was expecting a discount.

We don’t give discounts.

Well cash is Legal Tender.

In that case we don’t take Legal Tender.

Well what do you take.

Your Credit Card.

What if I don’t have a Credit Card.

Then we don’t do business.

Dahhhh, you win, here’s my bit of plastic.

The deal turned out a good one and I’ve dealt with the company a number of times since, but not taking Cash still has me scratching my head. :D

www.abc.net.au

Huh. Apparently not.

I also thought that it was technically illegal to refuse cash, but the article I read at the time claimed only a Government Department couldn't refuse cash.

Weird! :)

COVID-19 wasn't a factor back then, the transaction was four figures, and a cashless society wasn't on the radar. ;)

1474504 2021-01-15 06:12:00 Its because if you bang up their car they have your CC details and will deduct the repairs. It will be in the small print you signed without looking. prefect (6291)

Yes, I can understand that, but part of the deal was full and comprehensive insurance cover.

They had already sighted, and recorded, my Passport and Drivers License details.

When I was in business, and had a two month or so waiting list, the mention of Cash could promote you from two months too today or tomorrow. ;)

1474507 2021-01-15 09:54:00 Use "cash under the table" for repair work around the house here, even after "written quotes". Lurking (218)
1474508 2021-01-15 11:00:00 "cash under the table"

Yes that's why the system in general is trying to get rid of cash and the like, I'm not going to spell it out here, but people are just going along with it and shooting themselves in the foot being so clever at their own expense and helping the powers that be subjugate the ordinary citizens even further, management is always manipulating the workers and they (the workers) actually are dumb enough to help out management achieve this. It's a joke really.

All in the name of "progress" which must be bowed down to.
