| 1467885 | 2020-04-04 01:20:00 | "I asked her to use mouse to move to the 'No' tab but no can do..... she said needs use arrow (movement keys) and her damn Kboard doesn't have movement keys" It will be Pg Up/Pg Down or some other set of keys which should be indicated on the bios page, not necessarily arrow keys. zqwerty its all in the bin now, so to speak.... meaning I cannot do or advise her what to do. I explained that earlier. cheers |

| 1467886 | 2020-04-04 01:26:00 | Hard enough trying to advise someone about computer repair when all she has is a Mobile phone to contact me. And with the Covid-19 shiiiite going on and she cannot get a Paid pro to do the necessary fixes or use daughters computer blah blah blah, well its a dead end street. Had I been there with my computer I would have had her computer up and running 12-15 hours ago! cheers and thanks to all. edit: remove the IF from the If I had been..... thats a hypothetical... make it Had I been there,,,,,,,,,,,, |

| 1467887 | 2020-04-04 02:13:00 | While its not impossible for a Hard drive to fail during an upgrade it would be real bad timing if it did, unless a failing Drive was the start of previous problems anyway. Was there a backup of data made before the upgrade was started or wasn't there any to save ?? |

| 1467888 | 2020-04-04 02:57:00 | Just thinking -- There is still one other option. Assuming there is no data to be saved and everything on the drive is OK to be wiped. One of two things will happen - It will either work and you'll have working OS or it will be totally beyond any repair help. What you do is press the start button to fire it up, just as its starting to try to load, press and hold down the power button to shut it down, do this 2 times either on the 3rd or 4th start it will hopefully go into recovery mode ( it will have a different message along the bottom) then using the arrow keys ( bottom Right) 1709 my be slightly different but the options will be there -- select Troubleshoot - now's where you'll have to go by what you are told on the Ph(Options) What you are looking for is reset / Refresh or in HP 's case there may be a factory Reset option. If you select those it will wipe the OS and reinstall it from the factory restore partition. If its found select keep nothing, this way it removes any faulty programs as well. If the drives faulty then it wont work, or if the partitions are damaged it wont work either. Keep in mind these will wipe all data, so MAKE SURE she doesn't want anything on it. |

OR turn on and tap Esc once a sec at least..... neither worked.... it was the zqwerty method (turn on, quickly Press Esc and then F10) that got her into Setup and THEN all proverbial hit the fan with the NO DAMN ARROWS! That was the end of the line for me. There was NO backup made initially when I started the other post about the Update to 1903 not happening and that in fact all came about because she messaged in FB chat that Criminal Case game was really slow!!!!! in Both Google Chrome and Opera Stable. So I hopped into TViewer to have a looksee, while in there I found her Internet down speed to be 8Kbps... barely enough to open a browser page really let alone play a graphics heavy game in a browser...yeah no wonder it took her 40 minutes to get 1 Star , Star is say 2million Points to get... I can get 1.1Mill points a play that takes 10 seconds, if I play her CC on my computer. I can get 4 Stars in under 5 mins. Not bragging..... But her Browser was slow etc because of the 8Kbps. Cleared out cache, Used CCleaner to perform Health Check, Custom Scan and Registry fix.... after that her CC Game was faster..... for about 15 mins. Back to the before time. As for why I hadn't created a Macrium Image of the System HDD it was because at 9pm to 10pm (Uruguay Time) she watched Tele before I would say goodnight, meaning, I only had 1 hour from 1pm -2pm NZ Time in which to do things in TViewer at 8Kbps. Downloading/installing Macrium and starting creating an Image would have taken possibly that long, so it would have been a case of DLoad and Install Macrium one day, Start creating a Image next day and hope to hell it was completed before her hour watching tele had ended. Yes, I have been connected to her device in the past while she slept and performed installs or uninstalls, AV Scans/Prob finding...but that was 2 year back and she had good internet speed. Long story. Now back to the present time.... that Covid has caused havoc and it would just so happen that it came about when I get into my friends device and lo n behold, there's an update to W10 v1903!!!!! and a half dozen others, Netfx updates and a couple other security updates... why these had not installed I have no idea because as I said, Updates were set to be active 8am-5pm daily. So I thought ok get her the v1903 update... knowing that her slow 8Kbps could/would be a Achille's Heal, but thought to give it a start anyway..... and it was with 10 mins of starting that update/upgrade that I saw the notices that SRP ( System Recovery Partition) could not be updated..... and that is when I embarked on the path of trying to find out why SRP could not be updated, Remember now, ALL this started because her CC game and Browser was SLOW she had told me so I being trusty knight in shinning amor went to assist and save the Damsel in Distress. Now as I said a couple hour ago, she has no way at all of getting the W10 download, has zero knowledge of removing sata HDD from Device, installing it into another device as slave (daughters comp) and even if she did have enough know how there is zero contact and close visits from family right now, and there has not been any for two-three weeks..... coincidently about the time the SLOW internet began and steadily worsened. as for creating an Image of the HDD in her device, yep good idea to have a back up that could be used if the plan to instal w10 v1903 went belly up..... but at that time I was thinking along the lines that the HDD in her device had issues...... as i said before about the SRP (EFI) had 260MB of 260MB unused space on it and that was the Partition that was unable to be updated by the Windows Update to v1903. Also the other partition...(Disk 0 Partition 4) the Recovery Partition, showed in Disk Management as being 496MB free space of 496 MB.... to my mind something is amiss. Was then I thinking the HDD has probs....and it was then I DLoaded the W10 v1903 in Media Creation Tool and burned a DVD from it. Intending to post it to her because there was no way she would be able to download that .iso of about 2-3GB pre its being made into a usable .iso of 4.1GB... at 8Kbps on her device I don't think it would have completed in a week, 24/7 with nothing else being done on the computer at all. And I was going to send a 500GB Sata 3 HDD I have here for her to use, out the existing HDD and slap in the unallocated space HDD I send and get that W10x64 v1903 DVD onto the optic drive and install the mother. She could have done all the installing as it was all in Spanish and I'm a novice in that language but can get by...translator helps.... she could well do it and I could answer her Q's asked in FB Chat from her Mobile and advise best I could. The reason I wanted to send the DVD and HDD was because she was reluctant to let me attempt to do anything to her w10 Home v1709...she was used t it... the browser had become depressing for her daily pastimes but she knew her system..... which to my mind that HDD and/or OS she had was somehow, somewhere corrupted, something had gone awry in it and the best course would be to out the HDD and in a new one and instal Fresh W10 v1909/03..... ( how the hell it was going to get the necessary Netfx, Drivers, Vis C++ etc etc etc at 8Kbps I do NOT know..... God loves a trier) but she started emphatically telling me that she didn't want me to send her anything because she has to pay a lot!.... yeah... good ol' South American Customs and Gift taxes and also an evil eye to induce an under the counter Pablo Escobar "Silver or lead" handshake wink wink say no more slap on the shoulder. So that put the kibosh on that plan. As for data on the drive she has in device now..... as the Macrium image didn't happen, I know that there are some Opera's and movies on that HDD, she will have docs and pics etc etc... well that was another reason I wanted to send the spare 500GB 2.5" Sata 3 HDD that I have, with the W10 DVD. So that she still had everything that was /is on the existing HDD. Put it aside and get the New HDD and W10 installed and then place it ( the replaced HDD) into one of the 2 external cases she has and connect it to USB 3 port on device and see what can be gotten from it and saved. Test that HDD (S.M.A.R.T), surface tests the others that I cannot call to mind right now .... maybe it needed a Defrag!??? Never have I done one for her and I have no Idea if she has ever done a Defrag on the HDD. All possibilities. I was and still are of the opinion that Fresh W10 instal to a good used HDD is far superior than trying to right a OS and HDD with partitions that will not allow updates to be installed and are showing as being devoid of any Recovery Files etc etc. But she has slapped that one down to the ground. So what she going to do now???? No device working and no ship on the horizon.... its gonna be a long lonely wait for her. There is nothing I can do now... and she has had enough of trying to do things and me getting shirty when things like No Delete followed up by No Arrows, cruise up on me Planet!! Silence is golden. cheers Garry |

| 1467890 | 2020-04-04 08:55:00 | "Could it be that win may have decided to auto-update over her far too slow internet, and the update failed, or possibly its still in the process of downloading & installing the update ? Just speculation of course" I also had this thought. Keep it switched on and see if it updates and comes right, my under-powered Win 10 Notebook goes through periods of black screens and seemingly doing nothing then suddenly after an hour of so comes to life whilst updating. zqwerty hi yeah that is a possibility..... because her device was working ok-ish (slow as stated before) and she turns it off when we have finished saying goodnight/good-day respectively. It could have been downloading/installing that 1903 upgrade before she went to sleep and tuned it off, not aware that the update was being downloaded or installed... but somehow I just can't accept that because for her device to download that v1903 update at 8Kbps it would have had to have been powered on for ..hmmmmmmm... a week 24/7 just for a figure, a guess. Because it was working slow-ish online when we said our farewells for the day, and it was the next day when she powered up the device that it was a momentary HP Logo flash on screen and then Blackness, with a white mouse cursor in the middle of screen. But anything is possible.... I was wondering if somehow the device has gone into Hibernate/Sleep mode and needs to be bought out of it.... was just a thought I had yesterday. Cheers Garry |

The device is set to never turn off and monitor to never turn off when connected to power ( not running on battery).............. nothing to lose is there. I will send her a message explaining and suggest that she does that now. cheers |

| 1467893 | 2020-04-04 20:36:00 | Dios!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by the power of Zeus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this gets even worse. I sent her the message explaining and she replied "I have nothing to plug to the wall" Well after all else thus far I hit psycho-mode and full caps reply stating that she must have a damn power connector or the device battery would have stopped working within a month of her buying the device 3 years ago!!!!!!! I am beginning to doubt my sanity and wonder if I am the butt of a joke and a toy for others to play with. ciao for now. |
