Hi..... apparently her device does NOT have a Delete Key.

All laptops and keyboards do. She just doesn't recognise it. Tell her what they look like,

hi. i don't think her keyboard is the full version, I googled the Full size Island -style keyboard that the device specs says the device has and couldn't get much helpful info

www.quora.com

We did manage to get into SETUP using the Ësc>F10 method you gave , pic attached of the Setup screen, I asked her to use mouse to move to the 'No' tab but no can do..... she said needs use arrow (movement keys) and her damn Kboard doesn't have movement keys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to get her to use the move keys to move to Security/ System Configuration but it was impossible to do it. At that point it was quit time. There is nothing I could do to help her.
I have never used a laptop/Notepad in my life, know nothing about Keypads/N Function keys/buttons, Desktop to the bone I am.

I then asked her to look at the front edge of her device and tell me what colour the HD Light was... White or Amber (pic attached explains colour of the LED)........... she said Ï have nothing"....... no damn HD light!
I then asked her to put computer base to ear and listen, any clinking/clunking/grating sounds...explained what those sounds can mean...then I went on to say she doesn't want to be buying a new HDD just yet, take one of the externals to daughters and transfer data to free space, so she can use that HDD to instal Fresh W10 that she can get using Media Creation Tool and opting to create a USB to use......
Now all of this is getting to be too much for my non com techno savvy 79 yr old friend and she messaged "Stop, please"
I ignored that request and sent her links on how to create a W10 recovery disc/usb... I translated the search to Spanish and got her the How to do it in Spanish links.
Then I quit... it was 2am here and I was about to fall of seat. Into bed was a better option so I wished her have a good day and buenas noches amiga mia.

I don't think I can do any more on this one to help her. Shame really... for gawds ache.... No Del...no Movement keys!! The mind boggles..... she does know what movement keys are because it was she who said she needs arrows.

Thanks zqwerty, much obliged.

Did you make a system image BEFORE this whole lot started ( like advised) ??

The whole idea of them is when things like this happen you have all your data saved and can always put it back to how it was.

Now the Harsh part -- this was always going to be a touch and go if it would work, there were to many underlying problems, Thats why I suggested
Sometimes its actually quicker to save all the data (after imaging it with macrium, which you can use to extract the original data, but mount the image and test first) Then wipe the complete drive clean and install fresh.

The whole post reads like the blind leading the blind, :groan: get her to take it to a real computer tech who knows what they are doing, not some one " who knows all about computers", and is only guessing.

Even with the daughters help in getting a DVD, I doubt shes capable of repairing it as the automatic repair system mostly doesn't work, some times you need to use Commands to run certain fixes, and simply waffling about guessing is only going to cause more frustration.

The best outcome will be to get the data off the drive ( if theres anything she wants) could mean removing the drive slaving or imaging it then lifting data. WIPE the drive completely clean, install fresh, this will remove all the problems. Even if it some how manages to get going its ALWAYS going to be unstable.

BTW-- Those generally don't have a CMOS battery, the main battery does that job. As for he delete key - OF course it has one, try looking top right hand corner.

This is from the English version of that keyboard ( also got one of those laptops on loan at the moment) other wise I'd take a direct picture :)

It will be Pg Up/Pg Down or some other set of keys which should be indicated on the bios page, not necessarily arrow keys.

1467878 2020-04-03 23:06:00 Is this the same person/laptop you are refering to here
pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

If so, was an attempt made to update to a later build (1909) of Win on that laptop ?
Could it be that win may have decided to auto-update over her far too slow internet, and the update failed, or possibly its still in the process of downloading & installing the update ?
Just speculation of course :)

They are down the bottom Right hand corner - this is a screen shot of the Spanish Keyboard, and the Delete is top Right.(not pictured) But the English version is: Taken from the provided link to the model earlier posts.

I also had this thought.

Keep it switched on and see if it updates and comes right, my under-powered Win 10 Notebook goes through periods of black screens and seemingly doing nothing then suddenly after an hour of so comes to life whilst updating.

I also had this thought. Normally when that happens, if you are trying to manually do the upgrade it will fail with a message along the lines of Update already in progress Please wait. (then both fail) One of the key problems also is computers go to sleep or shutdown during the process, as the power settings have not been altered to keep it running.

There's often corruption in the SoftwareDistribution and other hidden folders as it was trying to do two upgrades at the same time. IF that happens its not as simple as renaming the SoftwareDistribution Folder, you have to take out all the downloaded files ( hidden files). Do-able if you know what you are doing.

answer to sys image is NO! there was not time.... I had trouble using TeamViewer as i was with 8Kbps internet down.... many effin reasons!
As for getting data off the drive that is impossible now........... her daughter and family are in Lockdown... no visits so she cannot use daughters computer
her daughter wouldn't know how to get the data off the HDD anyway.
Its all turned fecal... she cannot take come to a tech, none working...lockdown.... she said she have to wait 2-3 months..... as for the keys you show for a Spanish keyboard its NOT a Spanish keyboard she has its the damn kboard on her device and if she says no Arrows then that means NO Movement keys.
As for me being a wanna be techy well that sucks! I never claimed to be one and I never claimed to be a Messiah!
cheers
