1474193 2020-12-29 06:48:00 How do you tell your family that you do NOT want any Christmas Gifts from them. I end up with a cupboard of stuff I don’t want or need and am never going to use!

1474194 2020-12-29 09:01:00 Just say - I am not getting any of you presents anymore as you are all too old for this children's fantasy and please don't get me anything as well, if you feel you must a card would do. zqwerty (97)
1474195 2020-12-29 18:36:00 Rule in our house is over 18's don't get presents. SWMBO and I spend $20-30 max on each other and nothing on any family member over 18. Works for us but you have to be firm about it, yes they got upset at first but they accept it. gary67 (56)
1474196 2020-12-30 02:59:00 There are 6 kids in my family and I've honestly lost track of how many nephews and nieces I have (I think I could work it out if I wanted to). We all decided many years ago to stop buying presents for each other as it's really gotten too much to manage. That includes the kids, only their own parents buy them presents.
We mostly stick with it and I prefer it that way, I buy myself a present instead and always like what I get. There is one exception, my younger sister and I are a few years behind the rest and grew up together after the rest had all left home. We still buy each other presents and I occasionally give her son something.

I was always in awe of my Mum when she was alive, keeping track of all the kids, grandkids, great grandkids, buying everyone presents while managing on a sickness benefit. We always all bought her something as well. Stubborn old woman would never accept anything that cost too much though, gotta love her. I took to giving her vouchers which I'm fairly sure got used to buy some of the presents.

1474197 2021-01-01 21:36:00 SWMBO and daughters ask me what I would like for Christmas. That way I receive something I want and they are happy. Roscoe (6288)
1474198 2021-01-01 22:23:00 We don't really do gifts. If any it's some money or some food like we might buy something different for Christmas or make a Christmas type recipe we haven't had before. Or if we are doing a road trip after or before Christmas then we get something for that. Nomad (952)
1474199 2021-01-01 23:23:00 On the last day of Briscoes Boxing Day sale, they had a cast iron ceramic casserole dish / pot from $200 to $60. They found it so useful they used it on the first day :) Nomad (952)

I suggest using the English language, in plain verbal or written form. (Morse code is unlikely to be understood these days).

If they ignore your request, just gift the stuff to someone else, give it away on freecycle, donate it to a charity shop, sell it on TradeMe...

That's not very nice.:( What do you tell them when they ask you if you enjoyed their gift? Do you lie or do you tell them you gave it away or sold it?:horrified

Tell the truth that way they might finally understand and not do it again
