Probably the I don't know what to buy thing....I always think if you don't know, or there isn't anything, money or vouchers are better. Me, I love soap...but I'm picky about it, friends used to buy me rose soap...most of which was expensive and pitiful (in scent) but they know now. I get Bee and Flower Rose soap...lovely stuff. Well there's always trademe.....some ungrateful cow rejected the car her partner gave her - cause it's the wrong colour. Apparently you can't just repaint it... |

| 1474055 | 2020-12-26 19:15:00 | The rule in our house is SWMBO and I have to spend between $20-30 on each other and apart from that any family members over 18 get nothing so that they don't feel obliged to give something back. It's worked that way for years. It is explained to them when they hit 18 so they understand why. |

LL It really depends on how you wish to handle it but perhaps it should be kept in mind that people derive pleasure for themselves when selecting gifts and presenting them to those they hold in high regard. Personally I just say thanks very much and move on. Gary's solution below also works well for me in most cases. |

LL i have a "do not get me anything, but your presence is welcome" policy. only one or two break that rule but they do check before hand. often its something very practical that i do not have, which is nice. |

Just like some of the other days, black friday, what the h**l is that all about, just capitalism at work again. Good letter to the Editor about CGT and housing in there tooo. JK told us mums and dads to buy shares in the power companies way back!!, quite prepared to pay CGT on those if/when sold. lurking. |
